Overview

As many employer branding efforts are heavily reliant on digital marketing platforms more than ever, Glassdoor Company Updates is no exception.

The re-design of Glassdoor Company Update Edit prioritizes on making this a seamless experience for employers. By optimizing the editing features of Company Updates, employers are given total control of their campaigns on Glassdoor.

The Problem

1). Hidden Feature: The editing feature for Glassdoor Company Updates was hidden behind a hamburger menu.

2). Unclear expectations for Links: Confusion from users between Link descriptions and the Company Update description has been raised in the past. The editing ability for both were also not clear.

3). Confusing editing abilities: Currently, the editing abilities a user may have is not clear from the current design. This may hinder the user from making edits they may have wanted to make if the action was more clear.

4). No Information about Profiles: When a user makes edits to a Company Update they are not given information of how this might impact profiles of their company (in other countries and languages).

The Goals

Employers:
Easily make edits on Glassdoor Company Updates and fully understand how these changes will impact what users will see on their Glassdoor profile.

Product:
Create an intuitive editing experience for users in the Glassdoor Employer Center. This will possibly also increase the number of edits users will be making and thus overall activity in Company Updates.

Research

Research on the Glassdoor Follower experience was conducted in order to better understand users’ pain points when interacting with Glassdoor Company Update products.

Methodology:
Remote/moderated exploratory concept testing interviews were conducted with 12 participants. All participants were registered users who had visited Glassdoor within the last 6 months.

Key Findings related to Company Updates:

1). Users want a personalized experience.
This meant that they favored Glassdoor Company Updates that were related to their profile and/or past activity on the site. Thus, it would possibly benefit Employers to make the appropriate edits optimizing personalization (such as content tagging based on industry, location, etc).

2). It was crucial for users to see content that was relevant.
If they felt that the Company Update content they saw was not relevant, they would unsubscribe from that Employer’s Follower experience. Thus, prioritizing this for Employers in the edits they could be making might be a priority in the edit re-design.

Final Thoughts and Next Steps

Development Scope: By working closely with the developers responsible for the implementation of this design early in my design process, I was able to discuss with them the development scopes in this re-design. This helped me to better prioritize for a MVP design.

Edge Cases: Because various user cases were mapped and planned out earlier in the process, I was able to account for the designs needed for each of these situations and dependencies.
